Robot Humans

This week in class we watched a short film about a married couple that was getting settled into their new home. The man has to go and get something and ends up dying on the drive. The wife was extremely unhappy about the husband dying and her mother in law signed her up for an app. The app talked to the wife like it was her husband. She eventually got the premium package that included a robot that was just like the husband and acted just like all of the posts and pictures that he put up on social media. The big question during class this week was is this morally right or wrong. I believe that it was morally right because it produced the greatest amount of happiness for the greatest amount of people, or the least amount of pain for the greatest amount of people. It created happiness for the greatest amount of people because it allowed the wife to be able to see and talk to her husband again. Also it allowed their daughter to see what her dad was like instead of just having memories to rely on to understand what he was like. It was found out that the robot did not have all the same memories of the original husband, but I do not think that makes it morally right or wrong. I believe that what makes it right or wrong is the fact of whether or not it was able to serve the purpose of helping heal the wounds produced by losing the husband. I think that the robot was able to heal those wounds. In conclusion I believe that the robot is morally right for what the wife was using it for.
