Injustice at its finest

White bear correctional facility is a fictional correctional facility that we saw a glimpse of during class this week. Let me rephrase that, it’s a madhouse of torture and bad influences on all of creation. This madhouse takes justice into its own hands by torturing one woman because she committed a horrendous crime. Yes, she did commit a terrible crime. According to the video, she taped and documented her boyfriend committing rape, assault, and the murder of a little girl. We do not know the situation that well though. What if she had been held at gunpoint to do this? Yes she supposedly hid the girl from the cops, but we do not know what kind of coercion she was under. What if her boyfriend was going to beat her if she didn’t do all of this? This facility made it so that her memory was erased, and she would live the same torture over and over again by simulating the exact same thing that she made the girl go though. Is this not stooping all of these people down to the exact same level as this woman though. Who are we to say that we can commit these crimes without being punished because that is exactly what is happening. Those people who work at white bear are committing crimes against her, yet they are not being punished for them. Yes it is for the sake of punishing her, but it is still wrong. Also, people are paying to watch this, and they are bringing their children too. This is desensitizing humanity even more than we already do. This woman should be punished by going to prison. Living the same thing over and over again without knowing why until the end gets nothing accomplished in my opinion. This is an unjust institution in my opinion.

  1. Peter,

As stated in my argument in class, I do agree with your blog post. The mere fact that the psychological torment of a fellow human being is being put up for display for other human beings to take part of in the form of entertaining is wild in the idea. Creating such a world where crimes are paid for by public shaming will od nothing besides rewind us back to a time in history where people would be burned at the stake and stoned to death. Her crime wasn't anything in comparison to what her fiancé did and the only form of punishment I would deem right would be living with the fact that she let the fate of the life of a little child be determined by an obviously twisted man was bad and let her live in her own misery.

  2. I agree that the woman should go to prison. I find it odd that parents would bring their small children to teach them that it is okay to torture another human. Yes, the girl could have been abused by her significant other but if she had a conscience she would try to save the little girl, instead of watching her suffer. I think her punishment is way to severe and she should go to prison instead.

  3. I too think that this punishment is wrong. The way that her "punishment" is being fulfilled is sickening and not okay. Every aspect of this punishment is awful, from the people participating in her torture for sheer enjoyment, to the workers who run the show, to how her torture is executed day in and day out everyday for weeks for who knows how long.

  4. Unjust facility summons it all up, I fairly agree with what you presented, only I would dare to say that we aren't stooped into her level, we are actually stooped to a much lower level. For, willingly deciding to play the same role she did, is realizing that we are all the same way, yet hypocritically ignoring it to our advantage. The fact that we are doing the very same role she did and not feeling remorse or even sorrow for her is far more tantalizing than her own original action. What makes it worse is that we pretend to have an explanation to it, we assert that it's to teach her a lesson, to bring justice upon her. Being that her memory is erased every evening however, juxtaposes the actual purpose, it destroys the legitimate reason and demoralizes the action. Hence lucidly revealing that the true monster is not her but us, because we have converted her into our puppet, into our own personal human that we can all torture guiltlessly. We have stripped her of her life and transformed it into a play, a show that we delight on. How can she possibly learn the lesson if her memory is erased every night? We have the courage to hate the Nazi's and their actions, but turn right around and do a similar thing yet justify it with the justice system?
