C average work

We have discussed the controversy of grades before and it always is the same conversation. If we were to get rid of the grading scale completely, people would be angry about people that don't work as hard as them but receives the same award as them. C is technically average but that definitely isn't good enough. Grades do have an effect on student. Personally, thinking about my grade stresses my out and distracts me to the point where I don't remember assignments for some classes because I become so stressed about other ones. If I didn't have the stress of the grades I feel I would learn better and may even pay attention more. Classes could simply be either you pass or you don't. Still have tests but simple pass or fail. No GPA stress or breaking our necks for an A. Just pass or fail.

  1. I think you have a good point about classes should let you know whether you have passed or failed, and not just by being pressured by a system that judges your intellect. But in order to have an environment where learning is free-willed, we would need so much more as well. What can be the cause of stress is lack of knowledge coming from the teacher. If the teacher cannot be enthusiastic about their subject, how can the students be enthusiastic to learn about it? Teachers should be more important that grades to students, because through the teachers, the students have access to obtaining the knowledge they desire.

  2. I agree with you, classes should be based on either you pass or you fail. We have become so obsessed with grades and our GPA that most people don't even enjoy learning anymore, it's more about their grade and their academic success. Grades are just unnecessary stress.

  3. I go understand that grades can be frustrating. I understand the pass or fail, but what is considered passing a class, I personally would like to know what is the requirements for passing so I could pass the class, also the Mariana classically trained by the school system would like to know how she could be better than the rest. I will say that education is more of just standardized testing, which means that the kids aren't learning anything but what is on these tests because the schools want to impress their superiors with high test scores.

  4. I understand your position. However, I'm not sure I agree with your point about working hard. It is hard to believe that students would put the same amount of effort into their work if it was just pass or fail. Most people would do just enough for that P.

  5. I agree with your concept of passing or failing. People are so caught up and focused on the grading scale that the learning experience is lost. The only thing that becomes important is maintaining or achieving a certain grade.
