Karl Marx believes that capitalism ultimately falls into two
categories: the bourgeoisie and the proletariat. The proletarians are the ones
that labor to produce the product and the bourgeoisie are the ones that control
production. The proletarian’s salary is set so low that they are not able to
afford the things they produced thus making the poor poorer and more numerous
and the wealthy wealthier and fewer. Marx says these are the reasons that
capitalism becomes violent. It is clear how capitalism becomes violent. Because
the poor lives a life where they merely survive and it becomes so many of them,
eventually they will get tired of the mere survival lifestyle and revolt. In history,
we have seen people revolt and demand for better pay and more benefits. However,
in modern society, you do not see as many revolts and I believe it is because
we have become complacent. I agree with Marx when he said that the worker has
become alienated from his or herself. According to Marx, work and labor is
free, conscious activity and when that work is no longer free, it causes us to
have a feeling of misery. We no longer find happiness in the one distinctly
human characteristic. Now because labor becomes a necessity, we find happiness
in the animalistic characteristics such as sleeping, eating, and satisfying
pleasures and labor leaves us physically and mentally drained. Workers are alienated
from themselves because they no longer own their work. Before they even
complete the production of a product, the final product is already sold to
someone else. The worker is no longer able to pride themselves in their work
because their work is not theirs. The workers began to become robotic. The
worker began to work solely for wages that will help them survive.
I agree with you. In society today, working is a necessity because if you don't work, then you don't have money. If you don't have money, then you can become homelessness, hungry, and more. Working can be considered forced because a person has to work, so that they can provide things in life. That is the main goal and reason for working, so all of the enjoyment is taken out of it. The main reason for working is wages and not happiness.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with your post Rhonda. The one thing that make us (human beings) distinct from animals is free, conscious activity...annnnd now that's gone. It's a bit sad, to me at least, how much we aim to acquire a career we desire to have, but yet once we do have that job it's not as pleasurable as we hope it would be. A person can still love his/her job, but the fact that working is a necessity for survival (having a home, food, etc.) takes all the happiness away from it.
ReplyDeleteThis post brings up some good points of the lesson. A job is no longer an enjoyment even if it is what you enjoy. The world has changed so much to the point that true enjoyment is not as attainable to human beings. So then in reality and agreeing with what you are saying the work is no longer personal but machine made.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you! We have become complacent because we do not know any other way of living. Also, people are afraid to stand up for their rights to the bourgeoisie. There are changes in the world so our ideas changed over time. Because class struggles are reduced under capitalism, there is only two ways of energy.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you. In the society we live in today, you have to work if you want to survive. People don't just work for the love or passion of things anymore, they work because they have to make a way of life for themselves and their families. People have become compliant in today's society because you can't quit your job and go out and find another one just as fast, so they are basically settling just to get by day by day.
ReplyDeleteYes I agree that we have become conditioned to certain things, but I am not sure if I had the option to work or not that I would still work. Yes I would become bored, but there are things I could I find to do.I think we are conditioned to believe that we must partake in labor without choice.
